The Hanzon Foundation

The Hanzon Foundation focuses our outreach on Title 1 Elementary Schools in Jefferson County. Here are a few of our recent outreach programs:

Covid and social distancing have sidelined many of our outreach programs but we were able to help fund an incredibly successful, online gathering for the Slater Elementary community. Art teachers at Slater put together kits with all the supplies families would need to create a painting, including lemonade mix for the drinks! Participants were able to choose from two different Zoom links – each one with an art teacher ready to guide them through the creation of their painting.

A few years ago, we began collecting boxes of Valentines for students at our local elementary school who could not afford to share this simple gift of love and friendship with their classmates. In 2019, through the generosity of Foundation donors, we were able to provide over 400 boxes of Valentines to three different Title 1 schools here in Jefferson County. In 2020, we used funds from tours of Camp Christmas to purchase craft supplies and provide students with their own bags full of blank cards, glitter, stickers and more. It has been wonderful to see how something so simple has so much impact.

This past Spring, The Hanzon Foundation travelled to two local elementary schools to teach about the work of Lonnie Hanzon. It was an incredible experience and the art students, all third graders, created artwork inspired by what they saw and learned. Each student was also able to write a card to Lonnie asking questions, making comments, and some even included their own drawings. Lonnie then wrote each individual student back. A simple yet powerful way to make young artists feel seen and heard. A special thanks to Emma Hussey and Aimee Burke - two amazing art teachers that made it all possible!
